Help
A tutorial for new users is available! It is recommended that new users read it before starting to play, as it clears up a lot of questions. :) This page is meant to be used only as a reference.
Feeding
Gryffs will naturally go hungry over time. They will not hunt or feed on their own, and it is up to you to feed each of them individually. You can do this by selecting Inventory on the main Home menu, and then choosing the appropriate food for each Gryff you own. Different species eat different items. You can sell the food items you don't need on the Sales Hut. Gryffs are full at 100 points.
| Breed | Low Quality | High Quality |
|---|---|---|
| Common Gryffs | 2 Points - Morsel of Meat | 4 Points - Slabs of Meat |
| Mountain Gryffs | 2 Points - Chunks of Meat | 4 Points - Hunks of Meat |
| River Gryffs | 2 Points - Small Fish | 4 Points - Perch |
| Prairie Gryffs | 3 Points - Grass | n/a |
| Siberian Gryffs | 2 Points - Arctic Grayling | 5 Points - Siberian Taimen |
Hunting
You can gather food and items by hunting or fishing with your Gryffs. In order to do this, simply click on Hunting Grounds/Fishing Spots on the main World menu, select a Gryff you wish to hunt of fish with, enter the number of trips or attempts it should make, and press the Hunt of Fish button. In order to hunt or fish, a Gryff must have at least 2 Energy and 25 Hunger. Gryffs that are too tired or hungry will simply refuse to hunt or fish for themselves.
Hunting/Fishing is one of the two ways of getting experience for your Gryff (the other being Battling). Your Gryff will hunt and fish better with the higher levels that come from more experience. Gaining this experience is, however, a very slow process.
Battling
Gryffs are aggressive creatures, and they are more than willing to battle others. You have no control over these battles, as they fight alone, though you can choose their targets, and should do so wisely.
Any Gryff will happily engage in a fight with any Gryff you decide it should attack, as long as it does not belong to you (they won't attack their own) and it has sufficient energy. You should choose an appropriate target - attacking Gryffs smaller than your own in levels will result in very little experience gained, and attacking Gryffs higher up will simply waste your energy as you will lose. You should try to attack Gryffs similar in levels to yours, keeping in mind you may be attacked back.
You have a target finder at the bottom of every gryff's page. Clicking this button will return some Gryffs with a similar experience/level to your own. These are usually the best targets to attack, as you have a chance to win the most experience.
Hunger and Energy play a role in the outcome of the battle (they modify your experience rating for attacks and defense). The better fed and rested your Gryff is, the more likely it is that it'll win.
Mushrooms also affect the outcome of a battle. Red mushrooms remain in effect until the next outgoing attack (your gryff attacks another gryff), and Blue mushrooms remain in effect until the next incoming attack (your gryff is attacked). Blue mushrooms give a 5% attack boost, while red mushrooms give a 5% defense boost.
If you decide that you do not wish to take part in the battle aspect of the site, or are leaving for an extended period of time, you can retire your Gryffs. You can do that by pressing the "remove this gryff from battling" button on each Gryff's profile. Be forewarned, however, that once a Gryff is retired, it cannot be unretired for 10 days. There is also a $5,000 Gold fee to reimplement this Gryff into battling.
Breeding
Breeding two Gryffs is a seemingly simple process, but not an easy one. First, because Gryffs are reserved, untrusting creatures, you can only breed them to your own Gryffs. This means you cannot breed a Gryff to a stranger, unless you first allow that stranger into your own collection of Gryffs by having it traded in. Secondly, it is such a tiring process for your Gryffs that both Gryffs being bred need to be well-fed (100 Hunger) and rested (100 Energy). You should also have some food in stock so you can feed the offspring, as they will be born extremely hungry and tired.
Not all is bad news, though! Gryffs pass down their colors, markings, and even some of their experience to their offspring, and they are born immediately! In addition, since there is no concept of gender with Gryffs, you don't need to find a fitting male or female. Any two Gryffs can be bred together, as long as they live in the same pack.
In order to breed a Gryff, go to the Breeding Hall and select two of your Gryffs. Make sure they are fully fed and rested before proceeding, as the process may fail and their energy and hunger bars will be depleted as a result.
Note though: Breeding tokens will enable you to breed any two gryffs with guaranteed offspring, and without losing any hunger or energy. To use them, make sure you have them in your inventory and choose "use breeding token" on the breeding page.
Gold
Gold is the main currency of Gryffs. Gold buys items and food for Gryffs, and it enables players to buy gryffs on the adoption centre. You can gain Gold by battling (only for successful attacks) and by selling your extra food to the Hut Shop.
Donation Tokens
Tokens are obtainable by donating to the site, and can be redeemed for customs, free breeding tokens (no energy and hunger spent!), gold, or special items. One token equals one USD donated. More information about this on the Buy Tokens page.
Tokens can also be used to increase your Gryff-owning limit, as well as purchasing particular items on the Tokens Shop.
Transfers
After obtaining gold, tokens, items, or Gryffs, you may be wondering how to transfer them. You can do this at the magical pool. To get there, go to World > Explore World > Waterfall Caves > Magical Pool. Here you'll see a box. Type in the User ID # (the number after their name) that you wish to transfer to. Click "I think I got it", and it'll bring up a box where you can enter monetary value, items, or Gryffs! There is a 200 gold toll on transfering Gryffs to preserve their value, and a 50 gold fee on transferring items.
It is also important that you check the name and ID # of the person you're transfering to. If you have the wrong ID #, be sure to click the "I think I got it" button again, or it will not recognize that you typed in a new ID #.
